Picture Stories: African American Children's Book Illustrators

A traveling exhibition of 12 African American illustrators including Adjoa Burrowes, Faith Rinngold, E. B. Lewis, Floyd Cooper and Diane and Leo Dillon.

The show will tour the country through 2007.

Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Arts

Adjoa recently returned from Amherst MA, where her artwork was on display at the new Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in the traveling exhibition.

Adjoa participated in a panel discussion Critical Connections: People, Pictures and Their Stories, moderated by Darwin Henderson, a University of Cincinnati associate professor of literacy and early childhood education along with a panel of illustrators (Ashley Bryant, Daniel Minter, Floyd Cooper) featured in the "Picture Stories" exhibition to discuss their art and the importance of literature that positively portrays children of many cultures.

Homes of Color

Nicole Cutt's article about the Art Basil International Art Show held in Miami,  December 2006 is covered in the April/May 2007 edition of Homes of Color magazine. Adjoa was one of a dozen artists from The Black Artists of DC (BADC) participating in this annual art show. Adjoa's work was on display at the Lyric Theater.

See Adjoa's giant caterpillar art (from one of her children's books, Crawl, Caterpillar, Crawl) was on view in downtown Washington from March 2006 to July 2007, commissioned by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.

MURAL AT DC PUBLIC LIBRARY

Adjoa was commissioned to create a 5 ft by 15 ft mural based on an illustration created for the picture book DESTINY'S GIFT. The mural will be housed in the children's division of the Martin Luther King Memorial Library in downtown DC.
